2004 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Service and repair of fuel injectors starts with removing the V-bank cover and intake air connector followed by the fuel pressure pulsation damper while setting a shop rag underneath the delivery pipe before loosening the pulsation damper at a slow pace. Disconnection of the engine wire protector demands removal of the PCV hose from the PCV valve followed by VSV for EVAP VSV and No.1 to No.4 V-bank cover bracket bolts along with engine wire protector securing bolts. The two wire clamps securing the engine wire need to be removed in order to disconnect it from the RH delivery pipe. The technician proceeds with the delivery pipe and injector removal by successively unfastening the return pipe bolt and dismantling the front fuel pipe with gaskets and union bolts before disintegrating eight injector connectors and detaching delivery pipes from the lower intake manifold to retrieve the delivery pipes and injectors along with spacers and insulators and extracting the O-ring and grommet from each injector assembly. New grommets require installation on every injector followed by gasoline application to new O-rings before placing them on injectors while pushing these assemblies into their delivery pipes through clockwise rotation. The injector connectors face outward and the spacers and insulators must be placed on the intake manifold before setting the delivery pipes and injector assemblies in position onto the lower intake manifold while using nuts for temporary security. The front fuel pipe installation requires new gaskets while its bolt gets torqued to 7.5 N.m. Secure the clamp on the fuel return pipe against the LH delivery pipe at 7.5 N.m before checking that injector movement is smooth. Replace O-rings if injectors show any wrong movement. Secure the delivery pipe nuts to 21 N.m torque while connecting the injector connectors. Creating a connection between the LH delivery pipe and engine wire requires wire clamps which will be installed to the No.1 engine hanger with engine wire protector securing through bolts. The installation includes reconnecting the PCV hose and VSV EVAP followed by reinstallation of the V-bank cover brackets. During the last installation steps place the fuel pressure pulsation damper and intake air connector while securing the V-bank cover by following guidelines that include spindle oil or gasoline lubrication of O-rings and proper reuse of O-rings.
