2004 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser on 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Begin HVAC condenser service by discharging refrigerant from the refrigeration system before charging it with exact amounts of Single A/C 650 plus or minus 50 g (22.93 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) and Dual A/C 1,050 plus or minus 50 g (37.03 plus or minus 1.76 oz.). The first step is to remove the radiator grill together with the A/T air cooled oil cooler and engine under cover. Use the proper torques when removing the discharge tube by uninstalling the bolt and loosening the nut at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) and 22 N.m (225 kgf.cm, 16 ft. lbf) respectively before capping all open fittings to protect them from moisture and dirt contamination. The installation process requires compressor oil used to lubricate two new O-rings. First remove the bolt securing the liquid tube before capping its open fittings with proper torque at 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). The installation requires new O-rings to be treated with compressor oil so they can be fitted properly. There are several steps to remove the condenser which include unscrewing bolts from the 4 fasteners and 2 upper brackets to lift it up and then unfasten the remaining bolts and center brackets. New condensers need 40 to 50 cc (1.4 to 1.7 fl.oz.) ND-OIL 8 or similar compressor oil for the addition into the new unit. The installation process requires reverse execution of the removal steps.
