2004 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Throttle Cable/linkage on 2004 Toyota Avalon?
A: A repair or service process for the throttle cable/linkage starts with removing the battery and cruise control actuator by disconnecting the connector and unfastening its 3 bolts. The next step requires removal of the throttle cable from the engine after the throttle linkage detachment followed by the park/neutral position switch in addition to the valve body. Start by removing the throttle cable through a process of taking off the bolt and retaining plate then extracting the cable from the transaxle case. When installing a new throttle cable users should create 200 mm (7.87 inches) of radius followed by pulling the inner cable up to meet light resistance to maintain that position before stopping the outer cable at 0.8 - 1.5 mm (0.031 - 0.059 inch) from its end. After placing an O-ring onto the throttle cable you should push it fully inside before reinstalling the retaining plate and bolt with 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) torque. Reinstall the valve body followed by connection of the throttle cable to the engine before tightening it to 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Position the throttle cable correctly before attaching the park/neutral position switch and cruise control actuator with 3 bolts that need 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque and then connect the component. The vehicle test should follow battery replacement.
