• Q: How to remove and install the alternator on 2003 Toyota Sequoia?

  A: The alternator removal begins by first taking off engine under cover and throttle body cover and next detaching the intake air connector from the throttle body. Follow up by turning the belt tensioner clockwise to decrease generator drive belt tension and pull off the drive belt that uses a left-hand pulley bolt thread. The procedure begins by taking out the PS vane pump from the engine before moving forward to disconnect the generator connector and remove the terminal cap and nut to disconnect the generator wire and separate its clamp from the generator cord clip followed by removing the bolt along with the generator and the nut. Installation of the generator requires aligning it with bolt and two nuts before torquing the 10 mm nut to 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) and the 8 mm nut to 15.5 N.m (158 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf). Attach the generator wire to its connector through the nut before tightening it to 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf) and then put the terminal cap with the generator wire clamp onto the generator cord clip. Begin by attaching the PS vane pump pulley and proceed to install the generator drive belt while counterclockwise turning the belt tensioner which has a left-hand threaded pulley bolt. Complete the throttle body connection to the intake air tube before performing an on-vehicle check and then install the throttle body cover and the engine under cover.
