2003 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2003 Toyota RAV4?
A: Service technicians must begin maintenance work on the clutch release cylinder through bolt removal of the clutch line from its release cylinder position. After detaching the release cylinder heat insulator and its 2 bolts they should use Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to properly disconnect the clutch line before collecting fluid in a suitable container. The procedure calls for uninstalling the release cylinder by unbolted its two retaining points. In order to disassemble the system pull out the push rod boot then detach the boot from the rod and blow out the cylinder piston assembly with compressed air but keep the piston stable through the waste cloth while preventing fluid splashing. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston before inserting it with the spring into the cylinder while installing the push rod-equipped boot to the cylinder. The installation process starts by mounting the release cylinder through two bolts to which a torque of 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) should be applied. Next, use Special Service Tool: 09023-10100 to connect the clutch line to the release cylinder. Apply torque of 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) when using the tool or 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) when not using the tool with a torque wrench having a 30 cm (11.81 inch) fulcrum length. As a final step install 2 bolts with the release cylinder heat insulator while torquing them to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) after which fill brake reservoir with fluid then bleed clutch system while also checking for any leakage.
