2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder ABS Control Module Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Start the Hydraulic Control Assembly for Antilock Brakes repair job by taking out both the tool box and luggage compartment trim box cover before moving forward. Service Tool: 09023-00100 enables removal of the 6 brake lines from the ABS actuator. The procedure starts by disconnecting two harness clamps and actuator connector followed by unfastening two bolts, a nut, and ABS actuator assembly units and then two nuts and an ABS actuator from the actuator bracket before removing the two holders and three cushions from the ABS actuator. The first step for installation involves putting the 2 holders together with 3 cushions onto the ABS actuator before it can be mounted to the actuator bracket with 2 nuts torqued to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). The ABS actuator assembly should be installed with 2 bolts and a nut that receive 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque before re-establishing the 2 harness clamps and actuator connector. The ABS actuator requires connection of brake lines with Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 requiring torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) or 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) while using the tool using a torque wrench with a 30 cm (11.81 inch) fulcrum length. The brake fluid reservoir needs to be filled before bleeding the brake system followed by fluid leak inspection. After this, the luggage compartment trim box cover and the tool box can be reinstalled.
