2003 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the wheel hub on 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The wheel hub servicing process begins with first removing the oil seal using a screwdriver and afterwards separating the bearing from the axle hub. Remove the outside bearing outer race first through hammering with a brass bar without damaging the ABS speed sensor rotor before finishing with the inside bearing outer race. Check exhaustively both bearings and outer race components while inspecting for any signs of damage or wear. After placing the axle hub with the disc in a soft jaw vice users must adjust its pressure to maintain a secure hold without additional tightening before marking both disc and hub before proceeding to unscrew the five bolts to detach them. Place the disc in the soft jaw vice and then properly position the matchmarks between axle hub and disc before tightening the bolts with a force of 74 Nm (750 kgf-cm, 54 ft. lbs.). Fit the outside bearing races by employing Special Service Tools: 09950-60020 (09951-00730), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) while making sure to protect the ABS speed sensor rotor from damage. The technician should fill a new bearing with MP grease until it produces leakage through the opposite opening and then apply MP grease inside the axle hub. To complete the repair the technician must position the inner bearing inside the axle hub before installing a new oil seal with Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 (09951-01030), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) alongside using a hammer to apply MP grease on the oil seal lip.
