2003 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace an A/C Compressor Assembly on 2003 Toyota Highlander?
A: The primary step to exchange the cooler compressor assembly involves draining HFC-134A with Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080). This procedure requires removal of the generator assembly. The procedure for cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 starts with nut and O-ring removal followed by vinyl tape applications at the openings to shield them from moisture and foreign materials. The next step requires you to disconnect cooler refrigerant suction hose No.1 after removing its bolt and O-ring while properly sealing the ends. To separate the compressor and magnetic clutch, disconnect the connector then remove the nut before employing an E8 torx socket wrench to break the stud bolt and finally remove the three bolts. The oil drainage from the new compressor and magnetic clutch needs to be 120 - 135 milliliters to compensate for the residual oil in the removed assembly thus reducing potential efficiency interference during the refrigerant cycle. Use ND-OIL 8 for compressor oil. Attach the new compressor and magnetic clutch using the three bolts and nut and stud bolt before tightening them to 24.5 N.m. Reconnect the connector afterwards. When installing cooler suction hose No.1, first remove the vinyl tape then use a new O-ring along with compressor oil that you apply to both O-ring and fitting surfaces before tightening the fitment with a nut to 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Also reapply the installer for refrigerant lines to cooler discharge hose No.1. The installation process demands the use of Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to add 650 plus or minus 50 g (22.93 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) refrigerant into the system after installation followed by engine warming until all leaks are inspected.
