  • Q: How to replace the windshield wiper motor assembly on 2003 Toyota Corolla?
A: Starting the windshield wiper motor assembly change process requires removal of the windshield wiper arm cover followed by allowing the wipers to stop at automatic mode before unfastening the front wiper arm RH's nut. Proceed with detached the front wiper arm LH by removing its attachable nut. A clip remover tool allows users to disengage the meshing of eight clips before successfully removing the hood to cowl top seal. Separate a clip and untwist each of the 5 claws to unfasten the cowl top ventilator louver RH before doing the same for the cowl top ventilator louver LH. Make a connector disconnect while unscrewing two bolts before moving the wiper link assembly toward the passenger side where it can be detached with the rubber pin. A screwdriver assists in unhooking two rods intersecting at the clank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly and allows the removal of its 2 torx bolts to remove the motor assembly. The process for installment involves applying MP grease to the clank arm pivot before attaching the windshield wiper motor assembly to the wiper link assembly using two torx bolts tightened to 7.5 Nm (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf). The wiper link assembly should be installed first by sealing the rubber pin with 2 bolts that reach 5.5 Nm (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf) torque values before attaching the connector. To install the front wiper arm LH secure the wiper to the automatic stop position afterward use a round file to scrape the wiper arm serration followed by cleaning the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush before connecting the arm with a nut at the correct position which requires 20.5 Nm (209 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque while holding down the arm hinge. Onto the front wiper arm RH the technician repeats scraping and cleaning before installation with a nut at the specified position and torques it up to 20.5 Nm (209 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). The wiping condition should be checked by operating the wiper with washer fluid to verify the rear wiper clears away from the vehicle body.
