2003 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injector assembly on 2003 Toyota Corolla?
A: The replacement process for the fuel injector assembly demands an initial stage of prevention against gasoline leakage. You can access N0.2 cylinder head cover by unwinding the 2 existing nuts and 2 clips. Discontinue the ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover and separate all 4 fuel injector connectors followed by the removal of 3 wire harness clamps secured in clamp brackets. Disassemble the EFI fuel pipe clamp and utilize Special Service Tool: 09268-21010 through connection assembly followed by retainer alignment and subsequent movement of tool and connector toward the fuel tube assembly. Before separator removal confirm cleaning the space and prevent bending the nylon tubing while placing the separated pipe and attachment inside a vinyl bag for protection. The next step requires removal of the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly by unfastening 3 bolts while carefully pulling the pipe with its 4 fuel injectors until completion then removing the 2 spacers from the cylinder head. Draw out the 4 fuel injectors from the fuel delivery pipe. Each installation requires a new injector insulator followed by applying a thin layer of spindle oil or gasoline to the new O-ring before placing it onto each injector while keeping away from engine, gear and brake oils. Put spindle oil or gasoline on the region between the O-ring and the fuel delivery pipe. Then push the injector slowly into position while making brief clockwise and counterclockwise motions. Check that the O-ring does not twist and the injector moves without resistance. Replace the O-ring and start again if needed. Fasten the two spacers onto the cylinder head before attaching the fuel delivery pipe containing four injectors with three bolts according to the torque specifications for Bolt A (19 N.m or 194 kgf.cm or 14 ft.lbf) and Bolt B (9.0 N.m or 92 kgf.cm or 80 in.lbf). During this process check for smooth movement of the injectors. Connection of the fuel tube to the fuel delivery pipe needs inspection for damages while eliminating foreign objects until achieving a secure connection through string tension tests. Complete the installation of the cylinder head cover N0.2 by securing its 2 nuts and 2 clips to 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf) while inspecting for fuel leaks.
