  • Q: How to service and repair the Shock Absorber on 2002 Toyota Prius?
A: The suspension strut repair and servicing process should begin by first removing the rear wheels then tightening them to 103 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.). You must first take out the rear seat before deploying Special Service Tool: 09751-36011 to break off the brake lines from their flexible hose position. Discard any drained brake fluid into a container. Complete the same procedure by removing the clip a second time from the opposite side. Detach the ABS speed sensor wire harness through 4 nut removal at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Support the rear axle beam through jack placement on both its right and left sides. The shock absorber removal process requires.unscrewing the 2 nuts and bolt and tightening them to 80 Nm (816 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.) then taking off the nut and washer and shock absorber with the same torque specification of 80 Nm (816 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.). When installing the shock absorber retrace the removal process while conducting a rear wheel alignment check upon finishing the installation.
