2002 Toyota Prius Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the radiator on 2002 Toyota Prius?
A: The radiator servicing process starts with discharging refrigerants from the refrigeration system followed by an evacuation process before adding 500 plus or minus 50 g (17.64 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) of refrigerant during which leak checks should be performed. Engine coolant drain operations should start from the radiator but complete removal is not required for the process. Disassemble the electric cooling fan assembly as well as front bumper and radiator reservoir hose before commencing work. Refrigerant system protection occurs by removing the 2 bolts from discharge and liquid tubes while torquing them to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) before immediately applying caps to the open fittings to stop moisture and dirt from entering. Two O-rings that received compressor oil treatment require installation on the tubes. Unscrew the bolt then detach the liquid tube as well as remove the bracket from its position. The radiator upper supports need removal by uninstalling both bolts and supports. To remove the radiator with the condenser module push it toward the engine before pulling upward until the lower radiator support clears and finishing by pulling downward. The installation procedure must be conducted in the opposite order from removal steps.
