2002 Toyota Corolla Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Shock Absorber on 2002 Toyota Corolla?
A: The first step for suspension strut service consists of taking off the front wheel. The ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp requires removal prior to servicing suspension struts in vehicles that have ABS. The shock absorber flexible hose requires bolt removal to perform the disconnect procedure. After dismantling the shock absorber with coil spring it is necessary to unfasten the bolted 2 nuts and bolts which connect the devices to the steering knuckle. Next, uninstall the shock absorber and coil spring by removing the bolted 3 nuts. When installing the shock absorber with coil spring you should use 3 nuts to secure it while applying 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) torque. Install the shock absorber to the steering knuckle by applying engine oil to the 2 nuts' threads before tightening 2 bolts and nuts to 274 Nm (2,800 kgf-cm, 203 ft. lbs.). To install the flexible hose onto the shock absorber use 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) torque. Vehicle owners should first reconnect the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp then install the front wheel while torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The last step involves inspecting the front wheel alignment.
