2001 Toyota Sienna Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the front Air Bag sensor on 2001 Toyota Sienna?
A: The first step in sensor removal involves disconnecting the front Air Bag connector on the LH side before removing the two securing bolts. Begin by removing each screw from the 2 fender liner set screws on the RH side before disconnecting both the wire harness and front Air Bag sensor connector. Lastly disconnect the two bolts securing the front Air Bag sensor. Follow the vehicle front direction arrows to position sensors before torquing them to a value of 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf). The sensor installation requires proper torque after which any sensor replacement must include completely new set bolts. Also replace the sensor if it experiences drops or exhibits cracks or dents or defects. When installing the sensor it is essential to perform a vibration test to check for looseness while also guaranteeing that the electrical connection check mechanism remains tightly locked during connector connection to stop a malfunction code from being detected by the diagnostic system. Finally, reinstall any removed parts.
