2001 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Replace a Windshield on 2001 Toyota Sequoia?
A: You can start by removing the front door opening trim Weather Strips and front pillar garnish. Use a screwdriver to pull and detach the 2 assist grip plugs and 2 screws first from one side and then from the other side. To disassemble the windshield you should first remove the sun visors and holders followed by disconnecting the roof console box icons when present and handling the sliding roof separately by removing 2 screws and connector. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver and wiper arms through their 2 caps and nuts while taking off the hood to cowl top seal and 8 screws. Also remove the inner rear view mirror by disconnecting its nuts. Use Special Service Tool: 09806-30010 to take off roof side rail Weather Strip from its connecting point at the front end. Push piano wire between interior body sections using wooden blocks with protective tape. Cut off outside upper mouldings that surround the windshield. Use piano wire to strip off the glass while keeping the remaining adhesive on the body surface. Use a cleaning applicator tool to remove roughest areas on the body surface before treating it with a wet cloth that carries cleaning solution. Clean the glass surface by removing No. 2 stoppers and dams along with their adhesive material. When necessary replace damaged No.1 stoppers by removing and discarding the old ones before cleaning the surface and attaching new stoppers at the right noches. Apply new No. 2 stoppers onto the glass surface to match ceramic notches and secure new dams with adhesive tape. First align the glass then check its connection elements before making marks and scrubbing the black area on the glass rim surface. Apply Primer "M" onto the visible parts of the body then wait for 3 minutes before applying Primer "G" to the glass edge. Wipe off excess Primer "G" before it dries. Mold adhesive from Part No. 08850-00801 or its equal and prepare it within the time allowance before spreading it on the glass in the instructed areas. Position the windshield glass by matching its reference points while using light pressure and avoid adhesive overflow by using a spatula. Install the new windshield to its outer lip before adhesive glue dries then remove unneeded glue and secure both parts with tape to hold them until adhesive becomes strong. Check the finished roof assembly for leaks and address them before fitting all roof parts including weatherseals panels lamp hood elements and front door weathering strips.
