2001 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2001 Toyota RAV4?
A: The service and repair of the Clutch Slave Cylinder starts with disconnecting the clutch line from the release cylinder using bolt removal followed by release cylinder heat insulator removal. Subsequently Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 allows clutch line disconnection with proper fluid collection in a container. After disconnecting the 2 bolts you should remove the release cylinder. The disassembly process begins with pushing the push rod boot then removing the boot from the push rod and using compressed air to reveal the piston with spring inside the cylinder by holding it with waste cloth to avoid fluid splashing and prevent the piston from jumping out. First apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston before placing the piston-unit with spring inside the cylinder followed by installing the boot-and-push rod combination to the cylinder. Secure the release cylinder using the 2 bolts which requires torque of 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) then connect the clutch line to the release cylinder through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 between torques of 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) or 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Apply this torque while using a torque wrench with a 30 cm (11.81 inch) fulcrum length. The installation process includes the attachment of the 2 bolts together with the release cylinder heat insulator which should be torqued to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Afterward, brake fluid must be filled in the reservoir then the clutch system needs bleeding before leak inspection.
