2001 Toyota Prius ABS Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2001 Toyota Prius?
A: A proper service procedure for the Antilock Brake Hydraulic Control Assembly involves first taking off the outer cowl top panel and afterward removing the converter and inverter assembly followed by separating the water valve connector and hoses and removing the three bolts which require a torque of 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). The next step involves the removal of six brake lines using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 but maintaining a torque level of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Three connectors need to be disconnected before two nuts can be unscrewed from the brake actuator using 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs) torque while removing the three bolts from the actuator bracket with a torque of 11 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.). Detach the three spacers and three cushions before unfastening four connectors and two clips from the brake actuator. Install the connectors in the designated color sequence during assembly. Two bolts and brackets must be taken out of the brake actuator using a torque of 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm; 12 ft. lbs.) The installation process requires executing the opposite steps from removal while adding brake fluid to the reservoir followed by bleeding the brake system and leak inspection.
