2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel injectors on 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Service and repair operations on fuel injectors begin by removing suspension upper brace and No.2 cylinder head cover followed by PCV hose and 3 wire harness clamps detachment from clamp brackets. The service and repair procedure includes disconnecting the 4 injector connectors followed by removing the 2 bolts from the delivery pipe to cylinder head connection. Carefully detach the delivery pipe together with the 4 injectors while preventing injector drop. After removing both spacers and all four grommets the delivery pipe can be pulled to allow inspector removal. Each injector should have its O-ring taken out. You should apply spindle oil or gasoline to each new O-ring before fitting it to the injectors before you install the 2 spacers and 4 cylinder head insulators. Spread spindle oil or gasoline lightly on the delivery pipe contact points of the O-ring before pushing the injector through delivery pipes while rotating it clockwise and counterclockwise towards installation. Align the injector connectors upwards during installation. Connect the delivery pipe with 4 injectors to the cylinder head and secure its position using temporary 2 bolts to check injector rotation; replace the O-ring if the injectors do not move smoothly. The 2 bolts securing the cylinder head must reach 19 N.m (190 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) of torque following confirmation. Next, add the injector connectors to all 4 male contacts. To complete the task reconnect the 3 wire harness clamps to their clamp brackets while installing the PCV hose then installing the No.2 cylinder head cover and finally reinstalling the suspension upper brace.
