2001 Toyota Echo A/C Condenser Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser on 2001 Toyota Echo?
A: The HVAC condenser service begins with removing refrigerant from the refrigeration system followed by evacuation then adding 460 plus or minus 30 g (16.23 plus or minus 1.06 oz.) of refrigerant while checking for leaks. Service professionals must disconnect the discharge hose and liquid tube after removing 2 bolts which should be torqued to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) with proper caps installed for moisture and dirt prevention. Two new O-rings require lubrication with compressor oil before their installation. You should start by removing the radiator upper support through these actions: unharness the earth wire set bolt, pull out 6 bolts securing the post, remove 2 radiator cover set clips and center brace set bolt, and release the connector from the hone, detach the 3 hood lock set bolts and finally remove 2 set clips from the hood lock. The condenser must be pulled upward for removal while compressor oil of 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.) ND-OIL 8 or its equivalent must be added to the compressor if replacing the condenser. The installation process requires performing all steps in the opposite sequence of removal. You need a 10 mm hexagon wrench to take out the cap and remove the filter before using pliers to get rid of the drier installed in the modulator. Users should feed a replacement drier into the modulator through its vinyl bag while maintaining its 2-layered portion facing upward before installation. Begin by inserting the filter with its bottom-facing component and cap application through a combined process that involves applying ND-OIL 8 or equivalent compressor oil onto the O-rings and screw portion of the cap before tightening with a 10 mm hexagon wrench to 12.3 N.m (125 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf).
