2001 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Corolla?
A: Service and repair of the Clutch Master Cylinder begins by removing the brake booster followed by extracting the fluid through a syringe before disconnecting the clutch line with Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 and gathering the fluid in a container. Follow this procedure by uninstalling the lower finish panel and lower insert and No. 2 heater to register duct along with its clip and pin followed by unscrewing the two mounting nuts to extract the master cylinder which requires you to separate the gasket from it. Disassembly starts with freeing the clevis and boot by unscrewing the lock nut followed by removing the reservoir tank when using a pin punch and hammer to drive out the spring pin. Then put in the push rod and washer before you can take out the snap ring with snap ring pliers. Proceed to remove the piston. The reassembly process starts with lubricating all components using lithium soap base glycol grease before putting the piston inside the cylinder while installing the push rod set that includes a new gasket and washer together with careful insertion of the push rod until it touches the piston followed by installation of the snap ring using snap ring pliers. Place the reservoir tank inside its position while using a new grommet then drive the slotted spring pin completely into place. Installation begins with applying a new gasket onto the master cylinder followed by mounting the master cylinder with two nuts tightened to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) then inserting the pin and clip and proceeding to attach the No. 2 heater to register duct and lower insert and finish panel. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to make the clutch connection before torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Then refill the clutch reservoir with brake fluid followed by bleeding the clutch system then reinstallation of the brake booster along with clutch pedal adjustment before performing leak testing.
