- Q: How to replace the seat heater while protecting the seat cover on 2001 Toyota 4Runner?A: A replacement of the seat heating system should be performed while preserving the seat material from scratching and dirt accumulation and cutting damage. First start by turning the seat cover to its outer side while removing the seat wires. Before removing the heater perform two separate tasks by cutting ten tack pins used on the seat cushion cover and nine tack pins installed on the seatback cover. When installing the seat cushion seat heater, position it with the marked side (mark: Toyota) facing the seat cushion pad, aligning the end of the fin with the fold line of the listing pocket for Part A, and aligning the V-slit of the seat heater with the centerline of the seat cushion cover for Part B. Use a tacker (Banzai 303XT or equivalent) to attach tack pins to the seat heater, ensuring not to substitute other metal parts for tack pins, as insufficient distance between the heater and cover may cause damage. Sew thread three times from the pin side using individual stitches to reach the folded area. The intervals between these stitches should be spaced at 6 - 7 mm (0.24 - 0.28 in.) while using tack pins as indicated on the materials. When installment the seat heater for the seatback repeat identical procedures while verifying the marked Toyota side points toward the seat cushion pad and securing pins using the tacker tool according to established directions. Install the seat wires by passing them over the seat heater then put the seat cover back into its original form.
