2000 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2000 Toyota Tundra?
A: The vacuum brake booster service process requires removal of the master cylinder together with the brake booster vacuum hose and subsequent removal of the scuff plate LH along with cowl side trim LH along with lower finish panel and No. 2 heater to register duct. After the brake booster attachment to bench is completed, service technicians will proceed by first removing the pedal return spring together with its clip and clevis pin before moving on to separate the brake booster itself by taking out the 4 install nuts and associated clevis followed by brake booster extraction along with its gasket, then removing the 2 stopper rings and brake booster bracket with an affixed gasket. Installation begins with applying a new gasket on the brake booster and proceeding with brake booster bracket followed by 2 stopper rings before mounting the booster along with another new gasket. Begin by installing the operating rod clevis to its place before screwing and torqueing the booster installation nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Insert the clevis pin through the assembled clevis and brake pedal attachment and fix it with the supplied clip. Install the No. 2 heater to register duct and lower finish panel with cowl side trim LH and scuff plate after connecting the brake booster to the vacuum hose. Set Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 on the master cylinder so its pin extends to piston contact then flip the tool over to position it on the booster to measure a 0 mm (0 inch) distance between the booster push rod and pin head. Use Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to adjust the booster push rod until it produces a gentle feel when it touches the pin head. The next step involves reinstalling the master cylinder followed by brake fluid addition into the reservoir before performing brake system bleeding. Perform inspection of fluid leakage after verifying and adjusting the brake pedal and conducting operational checks.
