2000 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2000 Toyota Solara?
A: The first step for power steering pump servicing includes removing the front fender apron seal RH through the disassembly of its 2 bolts. You should sever the return hose while preventing fluid from leaking onto the drive belt. The 5S-FE engine requires removal of the clamp plate set nut whereas the 1 MZ-FE engine requires removal of the 2 clamp plate set nuts together with the bolt and 2 clamp plates and 2 holders from the pressure feed tube. Service Tool 09631-22020 should be used to disconnect the tube for the 5S-FE engine after removing the clamp from the tube. Start by loosening bolts A and B to detach the drive belt before unhooking the oil pressure switch connector and partially unbolt PS vane pump assembly and pressure feed tube. The oil pressure switch needs removal from the union bolt while avoiding drops and should be replaced when required. Remove both pieces of hardware inside the union bolt together with the gasket. When installing the pressure feed tube begin by applying new gasket materials before making sure the tube stopper makes contact with the front bracket while tightening the union bolt to 52 Nm (525 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.). You should install the oil pressure switch onto the union bolt by tightening it to 21Nm (210 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). Begin by installing the PS vane pump assembly and pressure feed tube until bolts A and B can be snugly placed. Both engine types require the tool 09249-63010 to tighten bolt A to 29 Nm while the engine wire clamp must be disconnected for the 1 MZ-FE. Connect and secure the oil pressure switch connector while paying attention to oil spots before tightening bolt B to 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Use Special Service Tool: 09631-22020 to connect the pressure feed tube while ensuring it parallels the torque wrench and torquing it to 32 Nm (326 kgf-cm, 24 foot lbs.) for the 5S-FE engine and 20 Nm (203 kgf-cm, 15 foot lbs.) for the 1 MZ-FE engine. The installation order for the tube clamp is followed by two clamp plates, two holders and bolt for the 5S-FE engine which requires tightening the clamp plate set nut to 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.) and two clamp plate set nuts to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.) for the 1 MZ-FE engine. The last task involves reconnecting the return hose while you reinstall the front fender apron seal RH with its 2 bolts then complete power steering system bleeding.
