2000 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser on 2000 Toyota Solara?
A: The HVAC condenser requires servicing which starts with evacuating refrigerant from the refrigeration system. The procedure requires you to remove the receiver and liquid tube by unscrewing the nut and applying caps to these open fittings to stop moisture or dirt entry into the system. The Discharge hose needs to be disconnected by unfastening its nut and hose clamp before the bolt so cap the open fitting. The HVAC condenser service requires removal of the electric cooling fans followed by the condenser series of steps starting with relay block No.3 set bolt extraction then the two upper radiator supports bolts and two condenser set nuts. After pushing the radiator toward the engine direction start pushing the condenser toward the radiator while pulling it along the upper section. The radiator should be pushed toward the engine before installing the condenser using two nuts while applying 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.) ND-OIL8 or equivalent compressor oil for condenser replacement. Fasten the two bolts onto the upper radiator supports after setting the relay block No.3 bolt. After installing the electric cooling fans you must lubricate a new discharge hose O-ring with ND-OIL8 or equivalent compressor oil before connecting it to the condenser using the bolt tightened to 10 Nm (100 kg.cm, 7 ft.lb) while using a nut to secure the hose clamp. The installation of the liquid tube requires use of ND-OIL8 or equivalent compressor oil on new O-rings before torquing the nut to 14 Nm (140 kg.cm, 10 ft.lb). Add the receiver to the system followed by a vacuum procedure then perform a refrigerant charge using 800 plus or minus 50 g (28.22 plus or minus 1.76 oz.). A gas leak detector should be used to test for refrigerant leakage with additional checks on joint torque when leakage occurs.
