2000 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service and repair operations for the Transmission Position Switch/Sensor should start with removing the engine under cover. You must remove the park/neutral position switch from its location after disconnecting its connector then taking off the nut and shift control cable before uninstalling the nut and washer and control shaft lever. First detach the park/neutral position switch by removing the lock plate then the nut followed by the two switch securing bolts. Begin the park/neutral position switch installation by tightening the two bolts with a torque of 5.4 Nm then proceed to put in the new lock plate and its nut with a torque of 6.9 Nm before bending the lock plate claws to fix the nut. Then install and torque the control shaft lever to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Finally attach the shift control cable and install its nut while torqueing to 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Check the engine start capability with N or P position shift lever only by inspecting the park/neutral position switch connection. Proceed with adjustment steps if necessary. The procedure ends with a test drive of the vehicle while reinstalling the engine under cover.
