2000 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the liftgate lift support on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: Begin the back door stay replacement by first supporting the back door with your hand to remove the bolt followed by the back door stay. Next remove the bolts along with back door stay from the body. Drilling a hole measuring 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in.) at the bottom of the back door stay functions as a safety measure to reduce high-pressure gas before disposal. Exercise caution during drilling as chips could produce during this process. Keep the back door stay piston rod protected by avoiding its disassembly and preventing any damage to the surface as well as refraining from making contact with paint or oil particles throughout the process. The back door stay piston rod and cylinder must stay in position whenever the door extension reaches full length. You should install the new back door stay by bolting it to the body and tightening bolts to 22 N.m (225 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lbf) followed by bolt and back door stay attachment on the back door which requires torque at 17 N.m (175 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf).
