How to service and repair the starter motor on 2000 Toyota RAV4?

Before starting starter motor service or repair check the connector connection and theft deterrent system accessories for any issues during an on-vehicle inspection. The first step includes removing the engine coolant reservoir before performing the air cleaner cap assembly disconnect procedure that requires separation of the ABS control relay connectors alongside the IAT sensor connector and PCV hose from air cleaner hose and air hose from air cleaner cap assembly. Disassembly of the air cleaner cap assembly begins with loosening and removing the four clamps holding it to the air cleaner case assembly and removing the loose air cleaner hose from the throttle body. The VSV needs to be disconnected before you remove the air cleaner case assembly by extracting its three bolts. You can detach the starter by first disconnecting the starter connector and removing the nut to cut off the starter wire and taking out the two bolts securing the starter. Reinstall these bolts at 39 Nm (400 kg.cm, 29 ft.lb) torque according to the reverse step order.
