2000 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the radiator assembly on 2000 Toyota RAV4?
A: You should start radiator assembly removal by removing engine under covers and draining engine coolant. Users should remove the cooler condenser in vehicles that include air conditioning features. The service procedure requires disconnecting wires and connectors for the No.1 cooling fan followed by disconnecting the wires for the No.2 cooling fan (provided with A/C) and for the ECT switch and the engine wire clamp from the No.1 cooling fan shroud. Detach the upper radiator hose as well as the lower hose and reservoir hose and both A/T oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler piping. The radiator assembly can be removed after uninstalling both upper radiator supports and two bolts following the removal sequence of two lower radiator supports. To remove the No.2 cooling fan you must first unscrew the three bolts before proceeding to take out the No.1 cooling fan by disassembling its four bolts. The first step of installation requires users to attach the No.1 cooling fan to the radiator with four bolts tightened to 5.0 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch lbs.). The installation of the No.2 cooling fan requires three bolts which need torquing to 5.0 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch lbs.). The radiator assembly requires attachment of two lower supports prior to its installation and final securing with upper supports and two bolts which must conform to a torque limit of 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Reattach the upper radiator hose together with the lower radiator hose and radiator reservoir hose while reconnecting both A/T oil cooler hoses to the oil cooler pipes. You must connect the No.1 cooling fan connector and No.2 cooling fan connector (where A/C exists) and ECT switch connector along with the engine wire clamp to the No.1 cooling fan shroud before reinstalling the A/C cooler condenser and adding engine coolant then replacing the engine under covers.
