Service and repair of the alternator begins by loosening the drive belt tensioner by turning it clockwise and then taking off the drive belt while placing it back carefully. First disconnect the wire clamp from the wire clip at the rectifier end frame and remove the rubber cap along with its nut to disconnect the generator wire before disconnecting the generator connector. The generator bracket at the 2ZZ-GE requires removal of 2 bolts that will enable generator bracket removal. Afterwards, 2 bolts need to be removed from the generator unit. Installation starts with using two bolts to attach the generator and you must tighten them according to a torque value of 14 mm head 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb) for the 1ZZ-FE or 58 Nm (590 kg.cm, 43 ft.lb) for the 2ZZ-GE. When mounting the generator bracket onto the 2ZZ-GE you must tighten two bolts to 29 Nm (295 kg.cm, 21 ft.lb). Position the generator connector first then the generator wire before installing the nut and rubber cap. Finally, reinstall the drive belt.
