- Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2000 Toyota Avalon?A: You should start the process of clutch compressor servicing by taking it apart. Use Special Service Tool: 07112-76060 while applying a socket wrench to unbolt the shaft with 13.2 Nm (135 kg.cm, 9 ft.lb) torque setting. Suspend the pressure plate from Special Service Tool: 07112-66040 before using the same tools to separate the pressure plate from its shims. Special Service Tool: 07114-84020 should be used during rotor snap ring removal while observing that the beveled side of the snap ring should face upwards. A plastic hammer should be used to tap the rotor off the shaft while maintaining the pulley free from damage. Special Service Tool: 07114-84020 enables removal of the snap ring which requires positioning the beveled side up for reassembly. The stator can then be extracted after detaching the stator lead wire from the compressor housing. Factory Procedure begins by putting the beveled sides of both snap rings facing upwards. The magnetic clutch clearance needs to be checked after reassembly using a dial indicator set on the pressure plate while connecting the lead wire to the positive (+) battery terminal. Use special service tool 07114-84020 to measure pressure plate and rotor clearance which must fall between 0.5 and 0.15 mm (0.020 and 0.0059 in.) when you connect the negative (-) battery terminal. Standard clearance of the installation can be corrected by inserting shims with either 0.1 mm (0.004 in.), 0.3 mm (0.012 in.), or 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) dimensions.
