The steering wheel repair starts with applying masking tape on both the steering wheel top center and steering column upper cover. When driving straight lines during the 100-meter course maintain a speed of 35 mph (56 km/h) while steering wheel control must be maintained. Mark the steering wheel to its straight position by referring to the upper surface of the wheel combined with the steering spoke as well as the SRS Air Bag line. The tape needs another line drawn which allows measuring the distance between them. Convert this distance into steering angle values by knowing that each millimeter (0.04 inches) equals one degree of steering angle. Demonstrate visibility on the RH and LH tie rod ends and rack ends by marking straight lines and measure the distance from each rod end to their respective rack end screws to note down these values. To adjust steering angle the technician needs to remove rack boot clips then loosen lock nuts before rotating RH and LH rack ends by equal amounts in reverse directions following specified steering angle measurements where each 360-degree motion makes the rack travel 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) across equal to 12 degrees of angle correction. The next step is to tighten the RH and LH lock nuts until they reach 55 Nm (560 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.) yet maintain a 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) difference in length between the tie rod ends and the rack end screws. Reinstall the RH and LH boot clips afterwards.

Start the engine and let it run at idle, then measure the steering effort in both directions, which should be 4.9 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch lbs.).
