    Q:
How to service and repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for servicing the Load Sensing Proportioning and By-Pass Valve (LSP & BV) requires disconnecting shackle No. 2 from its bracket through the removal of a nut followed by the cushion retainer and subsequent removal of two cushions and the collar. Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 enables disconnecting the brake lines from the valve body for removing the LSP & BV assembly. The service process on 2WD (except pre runner) starts with flexible hose bracket clip removal then continues by taking out the three valve bracket mounting bolts and spacer to release the LSP & BV assembly. When handling the LSP & BV assembly with flexible hose bracket on 4WD and pre runner variants you must detach the three valve bracket mounting bolts and spacer and flexible hose bracket mounting bolt before proceeding. The installation requires users to connect the LSP & BV assembly to the frame through three valve bracket mounting bolts alongside spacers for 2WD (except pre runner) or by using three valve bracket mounting bolts with spacer and flexible hose bracket mounting bolt for 4WD and pre runner with a torque setting of 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Join the brake lines through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 and torques should be set to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Secure shackle No. 2 to shackle No. 1 by using two nuts and adjust the calibration dimension A before tightening the locking nut to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Secure shackle No. 2 by attaching its two cushions and collar along the shackle bracket and tighten the cushion retainer nut to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). After setting the required rear axle load apply enough force to the load sensing spring until the valve piston glides smoothly into position while touching the spring steadily. Tighten the mounting nuts to 13 Nm. You must bleed the brake line after checking and readjusting LSP and BV fluid pressure.

    Q:
How to service and repair the Brake Proportioning Valve on Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve servicing starts with bracket removal of the valve which requires removing the bolt and nut along with two plate washers. The Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve requires users to remove 2 nuts and flexible hose brackets from 2WD (except pre runner). For 4WD and pre runner models, users should remove 2 nuts and their valve bracket together with the set plate. The service begins with spring-valve disconnection through plier use to unclip and remove the spring. Detach shackles No. 1 and No. 2 through the sequence of nut and bolt removal and subsequent removal of the load sensing spring together with 2 plate washers after deteriorating the 2 nuts and washer connection. A technician must remove four bushings together with two collars, two rubber plates and the load sensing valve boot while the load sensing spring boot. Check if the valve piston pin and the load sensing contact surface exceeds 0.7 mm (0.028 inch) wear limit. Reassemble the load sensing system by first installing the load sensing valve boot and load sensing spring boot before placing on the system 2 rubber plates and 2 collars and 4 bushings while applying lithium soap-base glycol grease to all rubbing parts and checking load sensing spring orientation. Fasten shackle No. 1 to shackle No. 2 while using the lock nut washer and torquing the nut to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Install the plate washers on shackle No. 1 followed by securing them with a bolt and nut fastened to 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). Fitting the load sensing spring to its load sensing valve requires a clip before you reinstall the valve bracket through the set plate installed on the valve assembly and provisionally tightening its two valve body mounting nuts while ensuring 2WD (except pre runner) has its flexible hose bracket in place. Use the bolt along with 2 plate washers to install it before torquing them to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.).
