Begin service of the back door courtesy switch by disconnecting the negative battery cable and waiting 90 seconds to avoid Air Bags, pretensioners from activating. The servicing process of the back door requires removal of the back door trim board assembly after which the back door lock assembly needs to be taken out. The service procedure includes installing the back door lock assembly followed by the back door trim board assembly and ending with reattaching the cable to the negative battery terminal. System initialization must be performed afterward because some systems need this procedure when disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative battery termination point.

In order to service the back door courtesy switch you must first disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal and let it rest for at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bags and seat belt pretensioners from activating. After disconnecting the back door trim board assembly you should proceed to remove the back door lock assembly together with the back door courtesy switch. After servicing the lock and trim of the back door, proceed with connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal as your final step.

Service of the front door courtesy switch begins by disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable then waiting 90 seconds before the Air Bag and seat pretensioner activation process starts. You should first disconnect the front door courtesy light switch assembly by both removing its bolt and switch before separating the connector. First link the connector before you install the switch by using the bolt. The cable must connect to the negative battery terminal afterward and the service requires initial system setup due to cable disconnect procedures.

A service start for the hatchback front door courtesy switch requires a first step of disconnecting the negative battery cable. Both 5 Door and 3 Door models require removal of their front door scuff plate which should be followed by removing the rear door scuff plate from 5 Door models. You need to remove the front door opening trim Weather Strip together with the rear door opening trim Weather Strip from the 5 Door hatchback. Start by uninstalling the main pillar garnish lower section on the 5 Door then move to remove the front door courtesy switch with a "Torx" socket wrench T30 to extract the screw before detaching the connector and taking out the switch. Install the front door courtesy switch through the "Torx" socket wrench T30 by connecting its connectors before screwing the switch into place while maintaining a torque force of 3.7 N.m (38 kgf.cm, 33 in.lbf). Beginning with the 5 Door center pillar garnish lower and then installing the rear door opening trim Weather Strip and the front door opening trim Weather Strip alongside both 5 Door and 3 Door door scuff plates. End this repair by connecting the cable through the negative battery terminal with 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf).

Remove the rear door courtesy light switch assembly by taking out the bolt and switch, then disconnect the connector.

Connect the connector, install the switch with the bolt, and then reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf).
