Rack

Service and repair of the rack and pinion requires the front wheels to be set straight ahead. First disconnect the steering wheel pad and steering wheel component before removing the RH and LH tie rod ends as well as the intermediate No. 2 shaft. The maintenance process begins with removing the manual rack and pinion assembly through standard equipment to detach its Rack And Pinion assembly set bolts, nuts and washers. Begin installation by putting the manual rack and pinion assembly into place and tightening both Rack And Pinion assembly set bolts along with nuts and washers to 201 Nm (2,050 kgf-cm, 148 ft. lbs.). Position the front wheels straight ahead before connecting the intermediate No. 2 shaft to the RH and LH tie rod ends through front vehicle lifting. Install the steering wheel after centering the spiral cable by aligning matchmarks on the column main shaft and wheel and tightening the nut only to secure. Also connect the connector during this step. Proceed to check the steering wheel center point then torque the steering wheel set nut to 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft. lbs.). You must install the steering wheel pad before inspecting the front wheel alignment.

A torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 inch).
