    Q:
How to remove the axle shaft assembly on Scion xB? Posted by Customer
    A:
Draining automatic transaxle fluid or manual transaxle oil brings the first step in front drive shaft removal. Beginning with front wheel and No. 1 engine under cover removal the service must also remove both rear engine under covers (left and right-hand sides). Separate the front speed sensors along with front stabilizer link assemblies by removing the front axle hub nuts in the same manner on each side. Remove the tie rod end sub-assemblies as well as front lower No. 1 suspension arm sub-assemblies from both LH and RH sides. When working on the front axle assembly mark the drive shaft and axle hub and then disconnect the steering knuckle with the axle hub through the use of a plastic-faced hammer without damaging the oil seal drive shaft boot or speed sensor rotor. Use Special Service Tool: 09520-01010, 09520-24010 and 09520-32040 to remove the front drive shaft assembly while guarding against damaging the transaxle case oil seal as well as inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover along with avoiding drive shaft drops. To detach the drive shaft assembly (RH) remove its two bolts followed by pulling out the drive shaft with its bearing case before removing it from the transaxle while being attentive to both seals and dust cover. Transferring vehicle weight to the hub bearing should be done using Special Service Tools: 09608-16042, 09608-02021, or 09608-02041 before proceeding to fix the front axle assembly (RH).

    Q:
How to remove and replace the axle shaft assembly on Scion xB? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before handling the front drive shaft assembly you need to drain either the automatic transaxle fluid or manual transaxle oil. Beginning with front tire removal, take off No. 1 engine under cover and installing both rear engine under covers. Perform the same steps on both sides to detach the front axle hub nuts. You can perform this step for both sides when you separate the front speed sensors and front stabilizer link assemblies. Follow the same approach to disassemble both tie rod end and front lower No. 1 suspension arm assemblies on left and right sides. After affixing temporary matchmarks between drive shaft and axle hub,Detach the front axle steering knuckle without pushing too far. Apply a plastic tip hammer to prevent oil seal, drive shaft boot, or speed sensor rotor damages. Rephrase this process for both front axle bearings at their stationary positions. Use Special Service Tool 09520-01010, 09520-24010, and 09520-32040 to remove LH front drive shaft while protecting transaxle case oil seal joint boot and shaft dust cover. Also normalize verbalization when possible. For transaxle removal of the right-hand drive shaft assembly remove its 2 bolts and pull out the drive shaft and attached bearing case before disconnecting it from the assembly with careful handling of seals and dust cover protection. I need Special Service Tools: 09608-16042, 09608-02021 and 09608-02041 to support the left hub bearing during front axle assembly repair. Do this procedure for the right axle as well.
