The first step for servicing or repairing the axle shaft involves wheel removal at 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs. torque). Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 allows you to disconnect the brake line after which you can remove the clip using 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) torque. First uninstall the brake caliper along with the disc by using torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) to remove both bolts and washers. A dial indicator helps check bearing backlash in the shaft direction but the reading must be below 0.6 mm (0.024 inch). Change the bearing if this limit is exceeded. A 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) tolerance limit should be used when checking the axle shaft surface outside the hub bolt. Replacing the axle shaft becomes necessary when this limit is exceeded. Start the procedure by disconnecting the parking brake assembly followed by removing the axle shaft assembly by undoing its 4 nuts with 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 91 ft. lbs.) torque then carefully extract the assembly to protect the oil seal. Remove the O-ring that exists inside the bearing case. The installation process should be done in reverse order of removal steps and requires filling the brake fluid reservoir then bleeding the brake system before checking for leaks and confirming the ABS speed sensor signal.

Use a snap ring expander to remove the snap ring from the axle shaft.

Grind the retainer and sensor rotor surfaces with a grinder, then pry them out with a chisel and hammer.

Check the deviation at the surface of the axle shaft outside the hub bolt, which should not exceed 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch); replace the axle shaft if necessary.

Use a dial indicator to measure runout, ensuring maximum shaft runout is 2.0 mm (0.079 inch) and maximum flange runout is 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch); replace the rear axle shaft if damaged or if runout exceeds these limits.

Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 and remove the clip, applying a torque of 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.).

Reverse the removal steps, and after installation, fill the brake reservoir with brake fluid, bleed the brake system, check for leaks, and verify the ABS speed sensor signal.
