    Q:
How to remove and replace the axle shaft assembly on Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should start by uninstalling the engine under cover from the left-hand side and draining the automatic transaxle fluid through the drain plug and gasket replacement by torquing the plug to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft-lbf). Begin by removing the left-hand front axle shaft nut while using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 and a hammer on a staked part until complete loosening to protect the drive shaft screw. The process starts with brake application during nut removal before splitting the front stabilizer link assembly left-hand using a hexagon wrench (6mm) to prevent turning of the ball joint along with the nut. Detach the bolt and clip during the procedure of separating the speed sensor from shock absorber and steering knuckle front left with special attention to protect the sensor from foreign items and damage. Separate the tie rod end sub-assembly left-hand from the steering knuckle through the removal of the nut and cotter pin while using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to protect the ball joint dust cover. To detach the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 left-hand from the lower ball joint you should first remove the bolt and two nuts. Use a plastic hammer to divide the front drive shaft assembly left-hand and axle hub but exercise care to protect both drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor during separation. The front drive shaft assembly left-hand must be removed using Special Service Tools 09520-01010, 09520-24010, and 09520-32040 while maintaining careful geht to the dust cover, boot, and oil seal during the operation and ensuring the assembly does not drop. To proceed with the right-hand side remove the screwdriver-operated bearing bracket hole snap ring followed by unfastening the bolt and right-hand front drive shaft assembly from the drive shaft bearing bracket while safeguarding the boot and oil seal from harm. The hub bearing installation for the front axle requires Special Service Tools: 09608-02021, 09608-16042, and 09608-02041 because the bearing may sustain damage when exposed to the entire weight of the vehicle without appropriate support.
