Crankshaft Seal, Front

A 2TR-FE engine front crankshaft seal requires the removal of four bolts that fix the No. 1 engine under cover. Remove engine coolant before you take off the radiator support to frame seal along with the fan shroud. The crankshaft pulley removal process begins with exiting the bolt then separating the air conditioning bracket if present. The front crankshaft seal removal requires the use of Special Service Tool 09213-54015 91651-60855 to gradually loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt until its thread penetration reaches 2 or 3. The installation of Special Service Tools 09950-50013 and 09951-05010 will enable you to remove the crankshaft pulley and its bolt. Use a cutter knife to cut off the lip of the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal before you remove it using a tape-wrapped screwdriver. Remove the oil seal from the crankshaft then inspect it for damage before using sandpaper with 400-grit to smooth rough areas.

Remove the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly, then remove the 10 bolts, drive plate spacer rear, drive plate, and drive plate spacer front.

Using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 91651-60855, hold the crankshaft pulley and tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to a torque of 260 Nm (2,651 kgf-cm, 192 ft-lbf), ensuring not to reuse the pulley bolt.

Align the set key with the key groove, provisionally install a new crankshaft pulley bolt, and use Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to hold the pulley while tightening the bolt to a torque of 260 Nm (2,651 kgf-cm, 192 ft. lbs.), ensuring not to reuse the pulley bolt.

Apply a light coat of MP grease to its lip, ensure it is free of foreign objects, and use Special Service Tool: 09223-50010 to tap it in uniformly until flush with the timing chain cover edge, avoiding any angled installation and wiping off excess grease from the crankshaft.
