Power Steering Pump

The power steering pump service and repair procedure starts by removing front wiper arms along with their left hand (LH) and right hand (RH) sides and the hood to cowl top seal and cowl top ventilator louvers from both LH and RH locations and the windshield wiper link assembly, cowl panel sub-assembly before removing the vane pump oil reservoir cover. The power steering fluid should be drained after which both the front wheel (RH) and engine under cover (RH) must be removed. Disassemble the pressure feed tube assembly through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 before unbundling the return hose and oil pressure sensor connector. The vane pump stay rear can be removed by first disassembling the bolt and stay rear components before removing the heat insulator. Alternatively, remove vane pump assembly bolts B and C before unscrewing bolt A followed by securing the vane pump assembly in a vise through the use of Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 (09631-00132). Afterward, you can remove vane pump oil reservoir cap sub-assembly and the oil reservoir assembly while delicately extracting the O-ring. The removal process includes taking out the pump bracket front alongside the flow control valve, power steering oil pressure sensor as well as the vane pump housing rear, w/pulley shaft sub-assembly, vane pump rotor, and cam ring and side plate front while ensuring proper removal of all installed O-rings and housing oil seal that prevents damage to the housing front. The installer must check the vane pump housing rear preload and rotating torque measurements before installing the power steering oil pressure sensor, flow control valve and pump bracket front along with the vane pump oil reservoir assembly and cap sub-assembly while torquing all bolts to their specified values. Finalize the installation of the vane pump assembly after adjusting the V belt tension and by using Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 to properly fit the return hose and oil pressure sensor connector. After adjusting the vane pump V belt users must examine the drive belt deflection along with its tension while adding power steering fluid before bleeding the system and inspecting fluid leaks. The installation includes putting back the engine under cover (RH) and front wheel (RH) and all components they removed while maintaining every torque standard along the way.

Serviceable power steering pump repair starts with removal of the front wiper arms together with the hood to cowl top seal alongside the cowl top ventilator louvers (each side) along with the windshield wiper link assembly and the cowl panel sub-assembly and vane pump oil reservoir cover. Before starting service and repair on the power steering pump drain all fluid and take off the front wheel (RH) with the engine under cover (RH). The w/pulley shaft sub-assembly and vane pump rotor should be removed together with the cam ring and then followed by removing the vane pump side plate front and its O-rings. Pronounce caution when removing the housing oil seal to prevent any form of breakage. The vane pump shaft together with housing front bush needs inspection for oil clearance that should remain under 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch). The measurement of vane pump plate thickness should fall between 1.405 to 1.411 mm (0.05531 to 0.05555 inch) while the vane pump rotor groove clearance must not exceed 0.03 mm (0.0012 inch). The inspection of the flow control valve must check for smooth functions without leakage, while the compression spring free length should measure at least 29.2 mm (1.150 inch). The vane pump assembly requires component replacement when it contains elements which have suffered damage or moved outside their specified parameters. Install the new housing oil seal following procedure with Special Service Tools: 09950-60010 (09951-00280), 09950-70010 (09951-07100), a press necessary for correct assembly. The w/pulley shaft sub-assembly requires power steering fluid on its housing front bushing surface before installation while avoiding damage to the oil seal lip. To assemble the vane pump system start by correctly aligning the vane pump side plate front and cam ring unit before adding the rotor and plates while applying power steering fluid onto the plates. Insert a newly fitted snap ring onto the w/pulley shaft sub-assembly before attaching the vane pump housing rear section with its new O-ring. Perform this installation operation by achieving correct alignment and torquing it to 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.). Users should check for smooth pump rotation and measure the rotating torque that should be 0.27 Nm or less (2.8 kgf-cm, 2.4 inch lbs.). First install the power steering oil pressure sensor by applying a new O-ring then torqueing to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). Afterward install the flow control valve using its components and torque the pressure port union to 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.). Install the front portion of the pump bracket by torquing it to 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) before installing the vane pump oil reservoir assembly with a new O-ring while torquing to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.). Proceed with installing vane pump components while the V belt must be tensioned before complete torquing. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 to install the pressure feed tube assembly by torquing it to 41 Nm (414 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.) following proper installation of the heat insulator on the vane pump stay rear. Adjust the V belt then inspect drive belt deflection before checking tension together with adding power steering fluid and bleeding the system and inspecting fluid leaks. reinstall the engine under cover (RH), front wheel (RH) with 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) torque then continue with checking the power steering fluid level for the reservoir and replacing the vane pump oil reservoir cover, cowl panel sub-assembly, windshield wiper link assembly, cowl top ventilator louvers (LH and RH) and the front wiper arms (LH and RH).

Secure the vane pump assembly in a vise using Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 (09631-00132).
