Drive Shaft

Start the front drive shaft overhaul by draining automatic transaxle fluid and transfer oil while using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 along with a hammer to unstake the front axle hub LH nut during brake application. Start by taking out the nut on the front stabilizer link assembly LH before applying a 6 mm hexagon wrench to maintain the stud if required. The rear edge of LH tie rod assembly becomes accessible after removing its speed sensor front component by unbolting the clip and sensor bolt and inspecting the sensor for damage before completing the tie rod assembly separation with Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. Separate the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH alongside the front axle assembly LH using a plastic hammer without causing any harm to the boot or speed sensor rotor. Detach the front drive shaft assembly LH through the use of Special Service Tools: 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040) while guarding the oil seal boot and dust cover from any damage. The process of removing and reinstalling the front drive shaft assembly RH matches the method used for the LH side where transferring all transaxle and transfer oil for 4WD vehicles is essential to prevent cross-mixing of fluids. The front axle assembly LH requires supporting with Special Service Tool: 09608-16042 for adequate hub bearing support. The front drive shaft assembly LH requires examination for boot damage and play before removing the inboard joint boot clamp and separating its boot. Drive off the front drive inboard joint assembly LH then apply matchmarks before proceeding to remove it without causing component damage. The technician should start by removing the damper combination with the outboard joint boot clamps from the front drive shaft assembly LH and finishing with removal of the outboard joint boot and old grease. Use Special Service Tool: 09950-00020 to extract the snap ring from the front drive shaft LH hole while removing its dust cover. Fitting the front drive shaft bearing and dust covers requires the use of appropriate Special Service Tools to achieve specified clamp tightening clearances. Fitting the front drive shaft assemblies LH and RH concludes the procedure and torque specifications determine their installation. Additional components like front axle hub LH nut and front wheel need to be reassembled while fluid additions are made followed by a system check of proper operation.

Retorque it to 69 Nm (700 kgf-cm, 51 ft-lbf) and stake the nut with a chisel and hammer.

Loosen them a half turn.

Install the inboard joint boot and its clamps, ensuring no remarkable play exists in the radial direction of both joints and that the boots are undamaged.

Remove the inboard joint boot clamp using pliers, then separate the inboard joint boot and remove the front drive inboard joint assembly LH, ensuring to place matchmarks.

Remove the center support bearing assembly No.1 (rear) and washer.
