You should disconnect the negative terminal from the battery first then straighten the front wheels before starting the procedure of power rack and pinion removal and replacement. Start the power rack and pinion replacement by first removing the steering pad followed by steering wheel assembly and lower steering column cover together with turn signal switch assembly and spiral cable. First remove the engine under cover assembly by taking out the 6 bolts on the front wheels then disconnect the engine under cover sub-assembly No. 1 through its 4 bolts. Detaching the front stabilizer bar begins with removing the tie rod end sub-assembly LH with its nut and cotter pin and going on to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle arm with Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. Perform the previously described steps on the right-hand side of the vehicle. Remove steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly No. 2 followed by the disconnection of pressure feed tube assembly when you loosen the flare nut with a union nut wrench and remove 2 bolts that separate it from the frame sub-assembly. The rack and pinion outlet return tube requires removal through the process of hose and clip removal followed by a union nut wrench operation. The power steering link assembly requires removal through 2 bolts and 2 nuts where a bolt-turning approach must be used instead of nut-turning due to detent design before sliding the rack and pinion assembly and bolt unit for successful removal.

Stake back the washer, hold the steering rack steady with a spanner, and use Special Service Tool: 09922-10010 to remove the rack end.

Remove 2 bolts, pull out the control valve assembly with the housing, and remove the O-ring. Secure the control valve assembly in a soft jaw vise, then use SST 09631-20060 to remove the bearing guide nut.

Drive out the oil seal from the bearing guide nut using Special Service Tool: 09950-60010 and 09951-00300 with a hammer.

Torque the power steering control valve with the 2 bolts to 18 Nm (184 kgf/cm, 13 ft. lbs.).

Install the engine under cover sub-assembly No. 1 with 4 bolts and the rear engine under cover assembly with 6 bolts.
