Service and repair operations on the rack and pinion begin with applying power steering fluid or molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease to marked parts. The servicework begins with disconnecting the battery negative terminal followed by horn button assembly removal and steering wheel assembly extraction through Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09950-05021). The process starts by taking out the front wheel with the spiral cable sub-assembly and then proceeding to disconnect the left and right tie rod assemblies using Special Service Tool: 0962-62011. Loosen the bolt while disconnecting the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and mark the parts together for reinstallation. Both front stabilizer link assemblies need disconnection along with front stabilizer brackets followed by removing pressure feed tube assembly and return tube assembly using Special Service Tool: 09023-12700. The procedure includes removing the power steering rack and pinion assembly and heat insulator (used for 1MZ-FE engine type) and the left and right turn pressure tubes through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-38200. Install Special Service Tool: 09612-0012 to the rack and pinion power steering rack and pinion assembly before you remove the left and right tie rod assemblies while checking their torque measurements. Disassemble the boot clips and clamps from the rack and pinion with caution while preserving their condition and remove the boots. Use Special Service Tool: 09922-10010 to unstake the claw washer before removing the rack and pinion ends sub-assembly. After that separate the rack guide and power steering control valve using a combination of 27 mm socket wrench and Special Service Tool: 09616-00011. First remove the control valve upper oil seal alongside the cylinder end stopper. After that extract both the power steering rack and bush to inspect the rack for wear and runout. The power steering cylinder tube oil seal and rack steering piston ring must be removed and new O-rings and rack steering piston rings must be installed with proper lubrication. The power steering cylinder tube oil seal installation requires Special Service Tool: 09950-60010 (09951-00420, 09951-00250, 09952-06010) before installing the power steering rack and bush with appropriate seal orientations. Use Special Service Tool: 09631-12071 (09633-00010) to check air tightness after installing the cylinder end stopper. Vacuum stability tests will verify correct installation of the oil seals.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

Remove the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly, followed by the power steering rack housing heat insulator (1MZ-FE engine type), and both left and right turn pressure tubes using Special Service Tool: 09023-38200.

Use SST 0995-70010 (09951-07360), 09950-60010 (09951-00290).
