The first step to remove the rack and pinion requires alignment of front wheels straight ahead followed by front wheel removal. Secondly the technician must disassemble the engine assembly according to specific instructions for either the 3UR-FE or 2UZ-FE engine model. Mistake the alignment of the shaft with the power steering rack and pinion afterward before removing the bolt and intermediate shaft. The technician should first disconnect the left tie rod end sub-assembly by taking out the nut and cotter pin then utilize Special Service Tool: 09610-20012 to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle without damaging any of the components including front disc brake dust cover, ball joint dust cover and steering knuckle. Repeating this process is required when working on the right tie rod end sub-assembly. Use a union nut wrench to remove the pressure feed tube by unscrewing the return tube side then the pressure feed tube side from the power steering rack and pinion before you can take off the two bolts connecting the pressure feed tube clamp. The last step involves removing the power steering rack and pinion assembly where completing the procedure requires removing two bolts and two nuts and avoiding twisting the nut which comes with its built-in stopper position and requires simply loosening the bolt when maintaining the nut position steady.

Repeat the same procedure as for the No. 2 steering rack boot.

Mark the alignment on the shaft and the power steering gear, then remove the bolt and the intermediate shaft.
