The first step in servicing and repairing a rack and pinion power steering rack and pinion requires users to set front wheels at a straight-ahead position before applying a seat belt to lock the steering wheel from rotating for spiral cable protection. First loosen bolt A to remove the clamp from hole cover No.1 before you separate hole cover No.2 from No.1 by loosening bolt B. Mark the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering rack and pinion assembly before you remove the bolt that disengages the intermediate shaft assembly. The first step of the procedure involves disconnecting the front wheel then using the Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to separate the tie rod assemblies of both left and right sides while also separating front stabilizer link assemblies from their brackets. Discard the pressure feed tube assembly and return tube assembly using Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 while also uninstalling relevant nuts and clamps that service both 2AZ-FE and 3MZ-FE engine variants. The power steering rack housing heat insulator and rack and pinion power steering rack and pinion assembly must be carefully uninstalled by taking out all related bolts and nuts. Disassembly begins with disconnecting both left and right turn pressure tubes through Special Service Tool: 09023-38201 while the power steering rack and pinion assembly needs special fixation with Special Service Tool: 09612-00012 before removing left and right tie rod assemblies. You must first remove steering rack boot clamps and clips followed by steering rack boots before unstaking the claw washer to take off the steering rack end sub-assembly with Special Service Tool: 09922-10010. The next step includes removing the rack guide while also removing the power steering control valve alongside its associated components and checking for damage and wear. The power steering fluid should be applied to new oil seals and O-rings before installing them according to their specified direction. Apply grease to the rack teeth ends so you can install the steering rack into the rack housing and carry out an airtightness test with Special Service Tool: 09631-12071 (09633-00010) to validate vacuum pressure stability.

Secure the power steering gear assembly with Special Service Tool: 09612-00012, ensuring to wrap it with tape to prevent damage.

Remove the heat insulator.

Install the tube clamp with the nut, torquing to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 inch lbs.).

Carefully remove it to avoid damage.

Use Special Service Tool: 09023-38201.
