    Q:
How to service and repair the radiator cooling fan motor on Toyota RAV4? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to fix or service the radiator cooling fan motor requires removing the No. 1 cooling fan by detaching the LH engine under cover while unhooking the upper radiator hose and removing the reservoir before disconnecting both No. 1 and No. 2 cooling fan connectors and unscrewing the two bolts from the fan assembly. The service begins by removing the No. 2 cooling fan through disconnecting its connector then removing three bolts securing the fan to its position. To disassemble the No. 1 cooling fan you should first unscrew its nut while the No. 2 cooling fan requires removal of its three screws and disconnecting of the lead wire and connector holder from the fan shroud. Begin by removing the screw along with the fan motor cover and proceed to take out the three screws which hold the fan motor in place. Reattach the No. 2 cooling fan by using three screws and achieve 4 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) torque on the fan motor while connecting the lead wire and connector holder to the fan shroud. Begin with installing the fan motor cover's screw at 4 Nm torque before adding the No. 1 cooling fan with its nut at 6 Nm and the No. 2 cooling fan's three screws at 4 Nm. Complete the installation by screwing the No. 1 cooling fan at 5 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 45 inch lbs.) torque then reconnect its connector while putting the radiator reservoir back in place and hooking up the upper radiator hose before swiveling the LH engine under cover back into position, then finishing with the No. 2 cooling fan using its three bolts torqued up to 5 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 45 inch lbs.) followed by connecting the No. 2 cooling fan connector.
