Joint Assembly, Lower Ball, Front Passenger Side

The procedure for front lower ball joint assembly removal on the LH side starts with taking off the front wheel, moving on to disconnect the front speed sensor LH for 2WD systems then proceeding to remove the front brake cylinder assembly LH and front disc. The next removal step involves taking away the front axle hub nut before disconnecting the front suspension lower No. 1 arm sub-assembly LH and tie rod end sub-assembly LH. First remove the steering knuckle along with its axle hub then proceed to eliminate the front lower ball joint assembly LH using Special Service Tool: 09961-02050, 09960-20010, and 09961-02010. The front axle assembly requires installation into a vise with aluminum plates while avoiding excessive tightening force. Install Special Service Tool: 09960-20010 to the front lower ball joint while checking that the clearance measurement between tool and front axle assembly produces 1 mm (0.0394 in.) result. Both assembly tasks require two identical Special Service Tool: 09960-20010. To start, place the front lower ball joint onto the front axle assembly while using Special Service Tool: 09960-20010 and 09961-02010. Apply grease to both the bolt threads and tool tip and make sure the tool goes in with A and B parallel orientation before attaching a wrench to the specified part while keeping away from the front lower ball joint dust cover.

Attach the front lower ball joint assembly LH using two bolts and a nut to the lower arm, tightening to 92 Nm (938 kgf-cm, 68 ft. lbs.).

Use a nut and apply a torque of 133 Nm (1,360 kgf-cm, 98 ft-lbf), then install a new cotter pin. If the cotter pin holes are misaligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

Use 2 bolts and a nut, tightening to a torque of 92 Nm (938 kgf-cm, 68 ft-lbf).
