    Q:
How to service and repair the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly for the floor shift type on Toyota Tundra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start service and repair procedures for floor shift lever assemblies by performing an on-vehicle inspection which checks for smooth P to R shift lever motion under ON ignition and depressed brake and forward movement in D and rearward movement in R. Inspection of the shift lever assembly installation together with the park/neutral position switch assembly becomes necessary in case issues present themselves. For removal, take off the front door scuff plate LH (for both Regular and Double Cab), cowl side trim board LH, lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly LH, shift lever knob sub-assembly, upper console panel sub-assembly, rear upper console panel sub-assembly, rear console end panel sub-assembly, console box carpet, rear console box assembly, front console box, and transmission floor shift assembly by moving the shift lever to N, disconnecting the transmission control cable end, removing the clip, disconnecting two connectors, and removing four bolts. The indicator light wire sub-assembly together with the shift lock release button and shift lock control ECU need to be removed during disassembly. Measure the transmission control switch resistance through connector removal and follow specification-based replacement guidelines for the transmission floor shift assembly. Adjust the shift lever position through a smooth shifting operation which matches the position indicator before performing adjustments by setting the shift lever to N position followed by opening the transmission control cable adjust case cover and sliding the slider to check spring tension before setting the lock piece. Installation of shift lock control ECU along with shift lock release button and indicator light wire sub-assembly should include proper terminal attachment. Installation begins with using four 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) bolts to fix the transmission floor shift parts and afterward securing the cable to the shift lever retainer with a new clip followed by joining the control cable to the end without any twists and finally reassembling both connectors. After installation of the front console box and rear console box assembly with console box carpet you must reinstall the rear console end panel sub-assembly followed by the rear upper console panel sub-assembly, upper console panel sub-assembly and shift lever knob sub-assembly and lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly LH, cowl side trim board LH along with both front door scuff plates LH before adjusting and inspecting the shift lever position.

    Q:
How to service and repair the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly for the column shift type on Toyota Tundra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Initial service of the column shift type shift lever assembly requires starting with an on-car examination to check smooth movement of the P to R positions when the ignition is ON and the brake pedal is depressed while validating forward movement in D and reverse movement in R. Check the installation of park/neutral position switch assembly as well as the shift lever assembly when problems occur. The service requires disconnecting the negative battery cable for at least 90 seconds before removing the front door scuff plates as well as the cowl side trim board and lower instrument panel finish panel and instrument panel safety pad insert and steering pad and steering wheel assembly and both steering column covers. The installer should detach the turn signal switch assembly including spiral cable sub-assembly then remove the column shift assembly by unconnecting the transmission control cable and harness. The column shift requires disassembly with the removal of shifting bellcrank assembly, compression spring, shift lever plate sub-assembly, lock release link, lever subassembly, shift lock solenoid and transmission control switches for P and S positions. Check the column shift lever subassembly while evaluating its resistance level then readjust the shift lever alignment if required. Installation must begin with the transmission control switches while the assembly process requires secure connection of the shift lock plate and solenoid and lever subassembly at the correct torque levels. The last step involves installing the column shift assembly and turn signal switch assembly and steering components and negative battery terminal reconnection while systems operating after reconnection initiation may be necessary.
