The Engine Control Module service process begins with disconnecting the negative battery cable then waiting 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner discharge. Service on the Engine Control Module begins with taking out the instruments and the No. 3 heater to register duct. Proceed with ECM service by disconnecting all 8 connectors of both units and then remove the bolt and two nuts that hold the bracket to the ECM. After that remove the nuts and the six screws and three No.1 ECM brackets and finally remove the four screws and two No.2 ECM brackets together with the two screws and No.3 ECM bracket. Begin by installing the No. 3 ECM bracket using its two screws followed by the 2 No. 2 ECM brackets with four screws after which you should install the three No. 1 ECM brackets using six screws. Use a torque wrench to tighten the 2 nuts securing the ECM at 3.0 N.m (31 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf), followed by the 2 nuts with bolt that screws into the ECM with bracket at same torque value. After connecting hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors and ECM connectors the procedure requires reinstalling the No. 3 heater to register duct and instrument panel sub-assembly. The process concludes with cable reattachment to the negative terminal before performing initialization procedures that some systems need after cable disconnection and reconnection.
