    Q:
How to install the brake master cylinder on Scion xD? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for brake master cylinder installation requires inspection and adjustment of the brake booster push rod when no vacuum exists within the brake booster after multiple brake pedal depressions with the engine off. The need for adjustment exists only when the brake master cylinder sub-assembly receives replacement with a new unit yet does not apply during usage of an original sub-assembly with a new brake booster assembly. Place the accessory tool from the new brake master cylinder sub-assembly on the brake booster assembly and measure its distance from the push rod using chalk where the distance should be 0 mm (0 in.). The measurement between push rod and tool should show no clearance or chalk nonstick condition. In this case apply Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 and utilize a 7 mm socket driver for push rod length adjustment followed by clearance recheck. Fasten the new O-ring onto the brake master cylinder sub-assembly while securing it alongside the wire harness clamp bracket with 2 nuts which require a torque of 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). The brake master cylinder sub-assembly receives the 2 brake tubes through a union nut wrench process with torque set at 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) when using no wrench or 14 Nm (144 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) with proper wrench alignment. You must connect the brake fluid level warning switch connector followed by connecting the clutch reservoir tube with the clip for manual transaxle. The installation sequence begins with battery carrier while battery tray follows and then moves to battery placement. Bleed the brake line while filling the reservoir then bleed the master cylinder and brake actuator if VSC is equipped. Inspect the brake fluid level of the reservoir while checking for any fluid leaks before setting up the cowl top ventilator louver center.
