    Q:
How to service and repair the brake caliper on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the brake caliper starts with wheel removal that requires a torque setting of 103 Nm (1.050 kgf-cm and 76 ft. lbs.). The next step requires disconnecting the flexible hose through union bolt removal along with 2 gaskets from the caliper while applying torque of 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.) and using a container to collect draining brake fluid. Caliper owners should remove TMMK slide pins using 43 Nm torque (440 kgf-cm or 32 ft. lbs.) yet TMC users need to utilize 34 Nm torque (340 kgf-cm or 25 ft. lbs.) to disengage the slide pin. Mallet away the caliper from the torque plate before you eliminate 2 brake pads with 4 anti-squeal shims for TMMK made or 2 brake pads with 2 anti-squeal shims for TMC made. During pad replacement all pad support plates and pad wear indicator must be taken off first while checking the pads and disc friction surfaces to remain entirely free of oil and grease. The main pin in TMC made calipers requires removal while using a hexagon wrench with 54 Nm (550 kgf-cm, 49 ft. lbs.) torque. After installation you must add brake fluid into the reservoir then conduct brake system bleeding and search for fluid leaks.

    Q:
How to service and repair the brake caliper on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should start with removing the rear wheel after tightening it to 103 Nm (1.050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Begin the brake caliper service by disconnecting the flexible hose by unscrewing the union bolt and removing the 2 gaskets on the caliper then detach the hose following up with a torque of 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.). A container should be used for collecting the draining brake fluid. Dismantle the caliper by backing out its installation bolt at 20 Nm torque (200 kgf-cm or 14 ft. lbs.) and unfasten the caliper from the torque plate. Remove the two brake pads together with four anti-squeal shims followed by the removal of four pad support plates so that the pads and disc friction surfaces remain free of oil and grease for installation. Unfasten the main pin bolt till it reaches 26 Nm (270 kgf-cm, 20 ft. lbs.) while removing the main pin. You should follow the uninstallation process in reverse order while adding brake fluid that will enable system bleeding before inspecting for leaks.
